Productivity Apps and Skills

This unit is intended to teach students the basics, and some more advanced features, of the Google "office" suite of tools: docs, slides and sheets. Students should also understand how to use their Google drive, and some basics of directory structure (organizing with folders).

Standards

4. Innovative Designer - Students use a variety of technologies within a design process to identify and solve problems by creating new, useful or imaginative solutions.

6. Creative Communicator - Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals.


Objectives

Students should master basic skills, and have some practice with more advanced tools available in the Google Docs tools that all of our students have access to. This should include:

  • Keyboarding (typing) practice, with goals to improve speed and accuracy
  • Word processing and formatting documents in Google Docs, as well as the tools available including sharing, commenting and the Explore bar options.
  • Creating effective slideshows using Google Slides (for both kiosk and live presentations)
  • Spreadsheet basics in Google sheets, including basic functions and inserting charts
  • Google Drive organization (directory structure) and collaboration and sharing options.
